Advanced Grinding for Precision Aerospace Components
Within our precision engineering services, customers often require components to be produced to highly exacting tolerances. We deploy advanced grinding technology which forms a critical part of the production process.
With grinding, customers can receive components to a dimensional accuracy in microns. Surface finish can also be enhanced, which can be vital to reduce friction or seal mating surfaces. Plus, where components are created from harder materials that are hard to machine, grinding can be an important stage in finished quality and accuracy.
Increasing Capacity with Advanced Grinding Technology
With demand from customers for highly precise finished components, we have invested in two new grinding machines. Increasing our capacity to produce highly accurate parts and increase both speed and consistency in our engineering facility.
Studer favoritcnc for High-Precision Grinding
The first machine is a Studer favoritcnc. The Swiss brand is already familiar to us as their S33 machines are previous installations here. The favorit, which will bring our total number of CNC universal grinding machines to four in total, is renowned for delivering highly precise grinding for cylindrical components. The favorit is also very flexible, with the ability to perform external, internal, shoulder / taper and face work.
Consistent Accuracy Through Controlled Grinding
Careful temperature control when grinding is essential when achieving consistent accuracy. The favoritcnc monitors component temperature to ensure tolerance levels are maintained through a grinding cycle. This provides a further benefit to customers requiring components made from hardened materials including stainless steel or having coatings such as chrome.
Introducing Centreless Grinding Capability
In addition to the Studer favorit cnc, a Jainher Centreless Grinder has also been introduced within our engineering facility. This machine will undertake external grinding tasks on components which cannot be supported at their ends and allows items to be processed using feed or plunge operations. Centreless grinding is rare within aerospace precision engineering services providers, and with this new machine from Jainnher we look forward to supporting customers’ new and existing work.
As our customers requirements continue to evolve, so too does our investment in people, processes and technology. By expanding our grinding capabilities, we are ensuring Bowmill Engineering remains ready to meet the exacting standards of the aerospace industry, both now and in the future.
