Airbus A321 XLR
When Airbus announced the A321XLR at the Paris Air Show in 2019 it took the aviation world by storm.
Alongside the A320neo it is set to become one of the best-selling long-range airliners ever made, setting new standards in fuel economy and passenger comfort.
As part of the evolution of the A321XLR, Bowmill were awarded by Airbus supplier Safran a package of first flight test manufacture of components to be used by the re-design. This included of both new design products and modified existing components.
The award would utilise a cross-section of the facilities and expertise provided by Bowmill to aviation partners, including:
- Solid Model conversion
- Engineering and producibility feasibility
- Quality configuration, using Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Project and Production planning
- New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing management
A total of 28 prismatic, cylinder and assembled items were required, with the customer setting short lead times for their delivery.
During an intensive 8-months, Bowmill completed all tasks and delivered the XLR prototype components to multiple global sites ahead of deadlines, exceeding expectations set by the customer.
