Bowmill Poole is currently looking for a Manual Machinist/Assembler to join the team.

This is a hybrid position although it is predominantly a manual machining role. The successful candidate must remain flexible to learning new skills and techniques. Extensive manual machining experience on XYZ lathes and mills is paramount, fitting and assembly experience is preferable but not essential. The successful candidate will receive full on the job assembly/fitting training in-line with business requirements. This role will require flexibility to cover different single-point failures within the business, mainly manual machining, spot-facing, and fitting/assembly.

Manual Machining Requirements (Primary):

  • Fully skilled time served machinist, apprentice trained preferably
  • Working within aerospace, familiar with AS9100 and material traceability
  • Using manual lathes & mills with DRO
  • Must have worked with various material grades and be able to select the correct tools for the material grade
  • Must be able to achieve excellent surface finishes internally/externally
  • Must be able to cut threads on manual mills and lathes
  • Familiar with spot-facing machining and cover spot-facing department at Bowmill Metal Treatments
  • Must be used to working to tight limits ≤ ±.001” (.025mm)
  • Must be able to use rotary heads and sine/angle plates
  • Set using traditional methods i.e.; DTI, icky ball, centre-finder (wobbler)
  • Must be able to check work with inspection equipment (bore comparators, bore mics, vernier, calliper gauges, air gauges
  • Must be able to read and interoperate drawings and follow planning requirements
  • Must be flexible to work load including covering personnel from other departments when required
  • Must be aware of H&S requirements of running manual machines i.e. PPE, machine guards etc…
  • Must work tidily and knowledge of 5c preferable but not essential
  • Experience with using fitting tools i.e. presses and hand tools preferable (not essential, training provided)
  • Using aerospace jointing compounds e.g. PR1770 (not essential, training provided)
  • Staking bushes and bearings (not essential, training provided)
  • Beading using air-fed machines (not essential, training provided)
  • Part marking (not essential, training provided)
  • Pressure testing (not essential, training provided)
  • Working to a tight delivery schedule
  • Good eye for detail
  • Following assembly instructions and requirements
  • Able to understand and interoperate assembly drawings and customer specification (not essential, training provided)
