Nick Epps, MD of Bowmill Engineering, was delighted to pick up the SME Star Employee Ambassador Award at the 2018 WEAF Aerospace Ambassador Awards evening held on Wednesday 27th June.

Nick was presented with his award at a ceremony that took place at Aerospace Bristol, beneath the wings of Concorde.

The Award

The SME Star Employee award, new for 2018, recognises the fact that individuals working for smaller companies in the aerospace supply chain often implement new initiatives or productivity enhancements which transform the efficiency of their company. Winners are selected by an independent panel of recognised experts from across the region’s aerospace and defence industry.

Nick’s award cited the following achievements:

  • Initiated and built a £3.5m precision aerospace machining facility in Tewkesbury, in 11 months using the latest Chiron FZ12 and Fanuc 6-axis robot.
  • Created 19 new roles for staff to support A320 with a plan to expand further as currently only operating at 40% of the facility’s capacity. Only 18 months later, the facility is successfully producing 1,500 units per month.
  • Tewkesbury is consistently achieving and exceeding quality and delivery requirements at a rate no lower than 98% OTD on KANBAN logistical control deliveries.

WEAF is the leading networking association for aerospace and defence companies in the South West of England
